So Much (For) Stardust
I found Fall Out Boy in 2005 - as their first major label album “From Under the Cork Tree” was released. It was one of the first albums I ever purchased with my own money (leftovers from a field trip). Since that day they’ve had shared custody with My Chemical Romance at the top of my favourite musical act lists.

So Much (For) Stardust absolutely reinforces that they belong there - and should probably be on your favourite acts list as well. This album sees the band reunited with producer Neal Avron, who they worked with on Take This To Your Grave and I hope that they continue to work together for whatever happens next for Fall Out Boy.

The upbeat melodies of songs like “So Good Right Now” and “What a Time to be Alive” are laced with the melancholy expected in a Fall Out Boy song. The true hallmarks for me on this album are “Heaven,Iowa” and the title track - “So Much (For) Stardust.” Both tracks have a heavier feel to them, finding guitars intermixed with piano and choirs, (and in the case of SMFSD, trumpets) accent Patrick Stump’s impressive vocal range. Heaven,Iowa is track 5 of 13 - barely halfway through the album I knew it was the crown jewel of the album. It also features two spoken word pieces that carry their own emotional weight when played in conjunction with the album, that would be otherwise out of place on anything but a Fall Out Boy outing.

It’s obvious that Fall Out Boy wanted to tell a story with this album.I can’t pinpoint a low point on the album, with it having not a single song to skip. While I feel a few songs are a little less then what I wanted, each song has its own purpose and all 11 songs (ignoring the two spoken word bits) have wormed their way into my brain during the day when I’m not actively listening to it. So Much (For) Stardust is an absolute banger of an album.

FINAL SCORE: 9/10
